Motorists heading out on the motorway network around Bristol have been warned about a M4 carriageway closure near Bristol today (Saturday, December 9). National Highways is urging motorists to plan ahead for the M4 eastbound emergency repairs due to potholes.
Drivers travelling around the Almondsbury Interchange near Bristol will need to allow extra time for their journeys ahead of emergency repairs taking place at M4 junction 20. Due to potholes developing within the roadworks section between the junction 20 slip roads, National Highways has closed the M4 for the safety of drivers while emergency repairs are arranged.
The eastbound carriageway was closed at 3pm, with eastbound traffic diverted south on the M5 to junction 16 to rejoin the M4 eastbound beyond junction 20. Repair work is likely to affect the evening peak, and in the meantime, drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.
UPDATE: There has also been a crash this evening on the M4 with all traffic being temporarily held and queueing traffic in both directions from J15 A346 Marlborough Road (Swindon East) to J17 A350 (Chippenham). MORE HERE
