Liverpool reportedly had scouts in attendance for Bayer Levekusen’s 3-0 thrashing of Bayern Munich on Saturday – masterminded by manager Xabi Alonso.
The Spaniard recorded the most impressive win of his fledgling managerial career thanks to goals from Josip Stanisic, Alex Grimaldo and Jeremie Frimpong at the BayArena.
As Alonso continues to be labelled as the ideal successor for Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, Liverpool supporters all over the land tuned in for the top-of-the-table Bundesliga clash. However, according to reports, it wasn’t just spectators keeping an eye on Alonso’s Leverkusen.

According to HITC, Liverpool had scouts in attendance at the BayArena to watch players representing both Leverkusen and Bayern Munich.
From Alonso’s side, it’s claimed Anfield chiefs were keeping an eye on talented, versatile forward Florian Wirtz, who has set the Bundesliga alight this campaign, with 13 goal contributions in 21 league outings. It is also claimed Wirtz’s team-mate, Piero Hincapie, was being watched closely by Anfield officials. The defender was linked with a move to Anfield last summer.
On the other side, it is claimed that Jamal Musiala was being scouted by Liverpool’s scouts. The Germany international is another Bundesliga prodigy who has been tentatively linked with a move to Anfield in recent times.
Rumours of Liverpool representatives being in attendance for Leverkusen’s latest Bundesliga win come as Alonso continues to be touted with the possible soon-to-be-vacant managerial post at Anfield, with Jurgen Klopp stepping down from his position at the end of the season.
Speaking on Monday Night Football on Friday, Alonso’s former Liverpool team-mate Jamie Carragher said he believes Alonso will be the manager to succeed Klopp.
“There’s a great chance that Xabi Alonso is going to be the next Liverpool manager,” he said. “He seems the standout favourite, and when you think of the great managers and where they start, a lot of them do something pretty remarkable at a slightly lower level perhaps.”
He added: “The timing for Alonso to step in is pretty perfect given the job he’s doing.”
