Emergency services are currently dealing with a serious incident in a Derbyshire town. Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the incident at 8.07am on Ollersett Avenue in New Mills.
Firefighters from New Mills, Glossop, Whaley Bridge and Buxton with the command support unit are on scene. Police and East Midlands Ambulance Service are also at the scene. Local residents are asked to avoid the area, and keep windows and doors closed.
Local reports indicate there was a sound like an explosion. A resident said: “That explains the awful bang this morning, it shook our road. I hope everyone is ok. Absolute respect for the extremely quick response of the emergency services.”

‘Gas explosion’
A spokesperson for New Mills Town Council said: “As many are already aware there has sadly been a gas explosion on Ollsersett Avenue. The emergency services are tending to the situation and it is advisable for people to stay away from the area if possible.”

12 properties evacuated
Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service (DFRS) are still dealing with an explosion in New Mills. The cause of the explosion is still being investigated.
A spokesperson for DFRS said: “Twelve properties in the surrounding area have been evacuated. Those who have been evacuated from their properties are asked to attend New Mills Leisure Centre to register that they have been evacuated.
“Other local residents are asked to keep their windows and doors closed while emergency services deal with the incident. The air ambulance is on the scene.”

One local living near New Mills said: “I wondered what the million sirens where bundling down the A6, I really hope every one is ok.”
