Fire service statement

Fire Crews have been asked to assist the RSPCA in an attempt to rescue a seagull in Church Street, Liverpool City Centre. After a request for assistance by the RSPCA, fire crews were unable to safely pitch a ladder against the glass canopy where the seagull was trapped.

They then used an aerial appliance and rope access gear to assist the RSPCA inspector to assess the condition of the seagull. The inspector advised that a rescue would not be possible in current conditions owing to the position of the trapped bird on the glass canopy making access difficult in terms of safety.

The RSPCA have advised they will reassess the situation. Fire crews left the scene at around 1.30pm.
