Live M25 traffic updates as serious crash causes 3 miles of queues near Heathrow

Traffic is building all the way back to Staines on the M25 clockwise. The Motorway has been blocked, causing long delays, after an incident at J14 (Heathrow).


All four lanes are closed for a section of the M25. This means that traffic is now being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads. National Highways suggestthat motorists allow plenty of extra travelling time if in the area today.



The delays have been caused by a multi-vehicle collision. Traffic monitoring site Inrix state that the road has been blocked since around 9.35am this morning (March 18) and that several ambulances are on scene.

Multiple breakdowns in queues

Traffic monitoring site Inrix have said that multiple vehciles have broken down in the queues between J12 and J13. Long delays continue and traffic continues until the M3

Two lanes remain closed

This follows the earlier serious collision. Lanes 1 and 2 remain closed. There are 4 miles of congestion on approach causing 60 min delays above normal travel time.

What’s currently going on?

With the incident first reported at around 9.30 am, the situation on the ground is constantly changing. Traffic Monitoring site Inrix now states that accident investigation work is underway at J14 A3113 Airport Way (Heathrow). Congestion continues until the the M3 at J12.

Diverrsions are from J13 via the Crooked Billet and Stanwell Moor Road.

Delays now expected until at least 5.15 pm

After monitoring the situation National Highways are now not expecting the road to return to normal until between 5.15pm and 5.30 pm . The multi-vehicle incident was reported at around 9.30 am this morning (March 18). Currently queues strech from J14 (Heathrow) until J12 (M3).

Where are the diversions?

With such lengthy queues and four lanes still closed, motorists are being diverted. Traffic monitoring site Inrix have said that cars are being diverted from J13 via the Crooked Billet and Stanwell Moor Road just outside Staines – upon- Thames.

Drivers stuck for 1.5 hours

With traffic continuing to build on the M25, some drivers have been stuck for more than an hour and a half. Currently, National Highways are predicting delays of more than an hour against expected traffic.

Delays expected until 4pm

The expected time for when the road may clear and conditions returned to normal has been pushed back. Currently, National Highways are predicting that the incident itself will be cleared at around 3.15pm with delays continuing until at least 4 pm. Earlier today there had been predictions the road would return to normal at around 2.30pm

Where is the traffic

The incident itself happened near J14, the turn off near Heathrow airport. However, traffic has built all the way back until J12, where the M25 meets the M3 just outside Virgina Water. 4 miles of congestion

Traffic is continuing to build following the incident on the M25 clockwise near J14, near Heathrow. National Highways are now reporting that congetsion is streching back four miles, with traffc monitoring site Inrix suggesting there are queues until J12(M3).

One hour delays

National Highways are now saying that delays in the area are up to an hour against expected traffic conditions. At the moment roads are not predicted to return to normal until 2.30pm.

Diversions in place

With all four lanes of the M25 closed for a section motorists are being diverted. On social media National Highways have announced that traffic is being diverted around exit and entry slip roads. National Highways suggest that travellers allow extra time if going through the area

Delays could continue until 1.30pm

National Highways is listing delays in two stages:

Firstly is the multi-vehicle collision itself. This is meant to clear between 12:30 and 12:45 but it could take until 1.30pm for the road to return to normal. Currently there are delays of around 30 minutes There are currently delays of 30 minutes against expected traffic.

Secondly the congestion that is building. National Highways list traffic between J12 (the M3) and J14 (Heathrow) as severe. This is expected to return to normal at 11.30am.
