LIVE: Emergency incident as Manchester Piccadilly issue travel warning – latest updates

Travellers are being warned of a morning of disruption with no trains running between Manchester and London. An ’emergency incident’ is affecting services between the two major cities this morning (June 5).

Details about the nature of the incident are yet to be confirmed. However, it means there are no services running between Piccadilly station and London Euston at the moment.




A post on X from Manchester Piccadilly says: “Travel Warning. Due to an emergency incident there are no mainline services between #Piccadilly and #Euston this morning.

Person dies on railway line

British Transport Police told PA it received a report of a casualty on tracks near Watford Junction station, Hertfordshire at 6.04am this morning.

Paramedics attended but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Incident ‘blocking all lines’

An update on Avanti West Coast’s website says:

“Journeys to and from London Euston are expected to be cancelled or delayed due to the emergency services responding to an incident between Watford Junction and London Euston which is blocking all lines.

“As a result, services are currently unable to depart from or arrive in to London Euston.”

More disruption expected

National Rail now expects delays until 10am.

Alternative routes

National Rail says Avanti West Coast ticket holders for services between Manchester and London can use their tickets on the following services at no extra cost:

  • Chiltern Railways between Birmingham Moor Street and London Marylebone
  • CrossCountry via any reasonable route

  • East Midlands Railway between Derby and London St Pancras International

  • LNER via any reasonable route

  • London Northwestern Railway via any reasonable route

  • West Midlands Railway via any reasonable route

  • Northern via any reasonable route

  • TransPennine Express via any reasonable route

  • Transport for Wales via any reasonable route

‘Lines closed’

Passengers are being told that railway lines are ‘closed’ heading between Manchester and London due to the ongoing incident.

No services to London

An emergency incident is affecting rail passengers between Manchester and London this morning.

Manchester Piccadilly says there are no services running to and from London Euston currently because of the incident.

National Rail says emergency services are at the scene of an incident in the Watford area, north of London.

Disruption is expected until at least 9am.
