Multiple people have been injured after a knifeman stabbed members of the public on a YouTube live stream in the German city of Mannheim.
The assailant, wearing a green t-shirt under a black tracksuit, was caught on a livestream outside a campaign tent for German anti-Islamist campaign group Citizens’ Movement Pax Europa (BPE).
He was then seen rampaging through the city’s Marktplatz square with a bloodied knife in hand, stabbing workers at the tent and rushing towards members of the public including a police officer.
More bystanders could be seen attempting to restrain the man as he lunged to stab people in broad daylight before dozens of armed police stepped in, shooting him.

In the harrowing footage, the attacker can be seen stabbing a police officer in the back of his neck as he attempted to restrain another person.
A police statement said: “There is currently a major police operation in Marktplatz in Mannheim.
“A rescue helicopter is also in use. No further information can be provided at this time.”
