King Krule briefly takes on Akon’s ‘Don’t Matter’

King Krule sang a couple of bars of Akon‘s 2006 hit ‘Don’t Matter’ at Glastonbury while performing on The Park Stage tonight.

The London artist, real name Archy Marshall, teased a cover before beginning an intense, jazzy rendition of ‘Pink Shell’, from his 2023 album ‘Space Heavy‘.

Towards the end of his set, the London musician brought his five-year-old daughter Marina on stage. She wore a Princess Aurora dress and stood behind Marshall as he performed ‘Seaforth’, a track he dedicated to her, introducing it by saying: “This next song I wrote for my daughter”

Marshall also used his performance to publicly share his support to the Free Palestine movement. Prior to playing his final song ‘Portrait In Black And Blue’, he said: “Fuck The Occupation, Free Palestine,” before adding: “Fuck the UK Government.”

Fans on X have been responding to Krule’s emotional set, which included an adjustment to ‘Space Heavy’, where he tweaked the lyrics to include the line “I think I’m sensitive“. Krule then finished the track to draw attention to an incident in the crowd that required medics and security.

It’s not the first time Marshall has publicly linked himself to Akon. In 2018 he admitted that, when being interview whilst drunk, he falsely claimed Akon wrote the Sonic The Hedgehog theme tune.

Marshall’s first performance at Glastonbury was in 2008. Then 14-years-old, he won an opportunity to perform at the festival after entering a contest run by Rough Trade and Youth Music.

Yesterday, (June 27), Krule announced he’d be part of the line-up for Mustafa‘s London Edition of his Artists For Aid Benefit gig.

The concert will focus on benefitting humanitarian efforts in both Palestine and Sudan. Other acts set to perform include Clairo, Blood Orange, Bint Mbareh, Daniel Caesar, Earl Sweatshirt, Nicolás Jaar, Ramy Youssef, and Yasiin Bey. The show will take place at the Troxy in London on Thursday July 4, and is in partnership with War Child UK. Visit here to purchase tickets.
