Alessandro Impagnatiello, 31, is accused of savagely killing partner Giulia Tramontano who was seven months pregnant, on May 27, 2022, in Italy.

In a courtroom in Milan, Impagnatiello admitted he had killed Giulia, and that he had tried to hide the body.

He described the initial confrontation with his girlfriend before he plunged the knife into her.

He told the courtroom: “She was cutting some vegetables with a knife.

“I waited for her and hit her at the neck”.

Impagnatiello admitted that he did not know how many blows he had struck Giulia with, but that he had only “discovered it later” through television reports and that he had stabbed her for the first time in the living room.

An investigation into Giulia’s murder revealed Impagnatiello tried to burn the body of his deceased girlfriend twice, the first time in the bathtub at home with alcohol and then a second time outdoors with petrol.

He said: “I tried to make Giulia’s body disappear, I tried to set fire to Giulia’s body. I tried to do it in the tub, then from the bathroom to the stall.

“I moved her body through four flights of stairs and then I responded to some messages…. I was the one using Giulia’s phone, I tried to continue to hide and hide”.

After moving Giulia’s body into his car, Impagnatiello told the court he had driven to his mother’s house.

He said: “I went to my mother’s house for lunch in the car, Giulia’s body was on board.”

Tramontano first found out about Impagnatiello’s infidelity when his Italian British lover reached out to her.

The 23-year-old who was also in a relationship with Impagnatiello, testified that she had reached out to Giulia the day she was murdered.

She told the court: “ When I called her she thanked me, I explained who I was and that I was in the same situation as her.

“I had to tell Guilia everything, I had had enough of her lies and she had to know.

“She thanked me and said we should see each other. When he found out I had talked to her he got angry.”

He allegedly texted his mistress, stating he was a “free man” while continuing to text Giulia’s phone to cast off suspicion from himself.

Giulia’s body was found in the early hours of May 30 in Senago – part of the Milanese hinterlands, three days after her alleged murder took place.

Impagnatiello was charged with aggravated murder, concealment of a body and abortion without consent.

He also admitted to purchasing rat poison and giving it to his pregnant girlfriend to force an abortion in the lead-up to her murder.

Giulia’s parents Loredana and Franco paid tribute to their daughter ahead of the hearing on Instagram.

“Our love, today we will talk about you, about how you were torn from life, about how with all your strength you sought the truth, at the cost of your splendid life.

“You always know for us our immensely Giulia and Thiago [the name of the unborn child] our angel. We will fight for you to the end”, her mum Loredana said.

Her heartbroken dad Franco said: “Nothing will give Giulia back to us. We shouted out loud, we will do it again so that justice is done for her and Thiago.”

Giulia’s sister Chiara has also been vocal on her Instagram stories.

“You can apologise if you accidentally hit my car mirror. You can’t apologise if you poisoned my sister and my nephew, making fun of us and deriding her,” she wrote in an Instagram story after the hearing in Milan.

“Having killed them barbarically, you deserve to wake up every day in jail thinking back to what you did and feeling disgust for yourself.”

The Tramontano family is calling for Impagnatiello to be handed a life sentence.
