Prince William said his wife Catherine is “doing well” following her cancer diagnosis.
He was told about a new health and social care facility being built on Duchy land near the hospital.
The prince said his children George, Charlotte and Louis were “very jealous” of his trip, and said he may bring them to Cornwall later in the year.
He was given a letter by matron Lynda McHale, written by her granddaughter, that wished the Princess of Wales and the King well in their respective cancer recoveries.
The trip marks William’s first official visit to the Isles of Scilly since becoming Duke of Cornwall, a title he holds in addition to his Prince of Wales title.
The prince receives an income from the Duchy of Cornwall – a portfolio of land, property and investments – which owns much of the Isles of Scilly and nearly a third of its residential buildings.
The Duchy is working with the local council to build a new integrated health and social care facility on land it owns adjacent to the hospital. The Prince cut the first sod on the site as part of his visit.
Catherine revealed she was receiving “preventative chemotherapy” in March after doctors found “cancer had been present” following her abdominal surgery in January. She has not yet returned to public-facing duties.
The King resumed public duties last week after being diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in February.
According to Buckingham Palace, his return to public-facing duties comes after making encouraging progress in his cancer treatment.
During his Cornwall visit, the prince swam in the sea and bought a round of Cornish pasties for his entourage.
Speaking to Tracy Smith, an administrator at the hospital, the prince said his children “are very jealous that I’m here, and they’re not.”
He added his family might visit Cornwall again “later in the year”.
Prince William’s comments come on the same day that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex began a three-day visit to Nigeria.
