Stunned Brits have reported seeing a meteorite flying through the air in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Footage posted on social media appears to show a shooting star soaring across the night sky.
Dozens of posts on X reported seeing the phenomenon from locations across the country, including London, Birmingham, Reading, Norfolk and Shrewsbury.
Some Brits even took it as a sign of good fortune before the turn of the year.
MailOnline journalist Tom Savage saw the meteorite from his home in west London.

‘It looked blue and green to me – I thought it could be a New Year firework at first, it was spectacular,’ he said.
‘I’m no expert but it seemed low and large. I’ve seen shooting stars before but this was nothing like them, it was a lot closer to the ground and a lot brighter.’
Another onlooker wrote: ‘Smoking a fag out my window a huge meteorite flashed by #London am I the only one that seen it.’
A second said: ‘Omg just saw a shooting star!!’
A third added: ‘Sat in a lay-by on A34 s/b top end…. Sky lit up with what I’d describe as a firework….. trail of sparks, very bright & disappeared quick as a flash heading south….. comet?? Low & close shooting star??’
One optimist said: ‘I just saw my first ever shooting star. My God 2024 is going to be my year. I receive it in Jesus name! Amen.’
