An ‘honest and frank’ 90-year-old grandmother has revealed her biggest life regrets and what she would do differently if she had her time again.
The elderly woman, who is personal trainer Rachel Dillon’s grandma, celebrated her birthday on November 19 with family.
While eating cake and drinking champagne, Rachel asked her grandmother several questions about her life and posted a TikTok video.
The grandmother admitted she wished she did ‘less of nothing’ and ‘more of something’ during her life.
She said her biggest regret was marrying young at just 17 – a sign of her times in 1950.
‘I never worked after I was married or anything like that. I wish I had done probably more mixing with other people [sic] – more socialising,’ she said.
Next, Rachel asked if her grandmother has any regrets – and others around the table laughed at the weighty question.
‘Yes, I do regret marrying too young,’ she replied.
‘I met my husband when I was 13 and he was 15. We got married at 17 and 19. I met him at the library. He used to take me for a ride on the bicycle.’
While many think eating healthy and staying fit is the secret to a long life, Rachel’s grandmother said there’s ‘no secret at all’.
Instead she bluntly put it down to ‘good genes’.
When describing herself she said: ‘I’m very outward going, I suppose. I’m not shy. I’ve always liked men.’
The conversation took a turn when the grandmother said she ‘didn’t want to make it to 90’.
‘I’ve had enough. I’ve had all I wanted to have out of the world. I’m quite happy to go and meet my little puppy dog waiting there for me.’
Lastly, Rachel asked her grandmother for any life advice she has gathered throughout her 90 years.
But her nanna said: ‘Oh God no, not these days. Not the way the world is going.
‘I’m just glad I will be gone. I don’t want to be part of anything that I can see going on.’
The adorable video has since been viewed more than 266,000 times and hundreds flooded the comments.
‘Can’t believe she is 90! Great humour,’ one person wrote, another said: ‘She’s so precious.’
‘That’s a life well lived when you’re at peace to go whenever because you’ve gotten what you needed from life,’ a third added.
Someone else said: ‘Still got a sense of humour about her. I’d be happy to have half her energy at this age.’
‘I love advice from older women. So wise and lived so much of a life we can’t even fathom yet. Such a blessing to be her age and well. You’re so blessed to still have your Nan,’ another wrote.
