Hospital surrounded over concerns for woman’s safety in car park

The Royal Liverpool Hospital was surrounded by emergency services following an incident in the multi-storey car park.

Merseyside Police were called to the NCP multi-storey car park near the Royal Liverpool University Hospital at around 5pm on Thursday, January 11, following concerns for the safety of a woman. Following the initial report, a huge number of emergency services including police, the fire service and ambulance service, arrived at the scene.

A number of cordons were put in place including on Mount Vernon Street and Low Hill, as emergency services dealt with the incident. During this time a police forensics van was seen leaving the car park.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm that emergency services are currently at Mount Vernon Street in Liverpool this evening, Thursday 11 January, following a police incident. At around 5pm emergency services were called to a report of concern for the safety of a woman at the car park on Mount Vernon Street near Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

“Mount Vernon Street and the Low Hill Junction are currently closed while emergency services deal with the incident and motorists are advised to avoid the area. Thank you for your patience as we deal with this incident.”

Despite the huge emergency service presence, Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust gave an update on social media to confirm access to A&E was unaffected.
