A reporter has received a show of support from Hollywood stars after responding to body-shaming comments live on air.

Leslie Horton, a traffic journalist for the Canadian television station Global News Calgary, was widely discussed on social media after reading out the body shaming email during one of her reports.

She said: “I’m just gonna’ respond to an email that I just got saying: ‘Congratulations on your pregnancy. If you’re gonna’ wear old bus driver pants, you have to expect emails like this’.

“So thanks for that,” she responded.

“No, I’m not pregnant. I actually lost my uterus to cancer last year. And this is what women of my age look like. So if it is offensive to you, that is unfortunate.”

“Think about the emails that you send.”

A clip of the 59-year-old’s response went viral on social media and was shared by Hollywood star Jamie Lee Curtis on Instagram.

Actress Michelle Pfeiffer also responded, writing “bravo” with several clapping hand emojis.

Ms Horton has been at Global Calgary, a television station covering the city of Calgary in southern Canada, since 1995.

She told the Canadian Press she had received “nasty” messages from the same man for the last four years.

But she said she decided to speak out on this occasion because the email had “crossed my line”.

“I just thought, you can send me your critiques, you can send me some nasty messages, but you do not get to speak to me inappropriately,” she said.

“And that had crossed my line. I found this particular message aimed directly at shaming me, humiliating me and embarrassing me and making me feel bad about myself.

“So I said some words. Apparently, they were coherent. And I finished my traffic report and I walked away.”
