Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 2 has been evacuated this morning sparking chaos for holidaymakers as emergency services swarmed the area.
Images circulating on social media shows what appears to be crowds of holidaymakers stood along the airport’s entrance as multiple police vans scour the area. Officers were also reportedly seen roaming the premises with sniffer dogs.
Multiple confused travellers took to X saying holidaymakers had been left in the dark as to why they were being evacuated, with no announcements made by the airport. One user wrote: “T2 being evacuated…everyone sitting around waiting with no info?”
Another said: “Anyone know what’s happening at Terminal 2 at #Heathrow? Some sort of evacuation happening but no instructions from staff?” While a third added: “Everyone being asked to leave establishments. Congregation on the lower floor #T2Heathrow.”
X User Andy said: “Heathrow Terminal 2 being evacuated but no clue why?”. Ken agreed, adding: “At #Heathrow #terminal2 #ht2 been asked to evacuate no idea why.”
But one user claimed a “suspicious package” prompted bosses to call in a bomb squad. She wrote: “My sister (evacuated) was told that the found a suspicious package and called in bomb squad.”
There is yet to be an announcement on what sparked the evacuation, and it remains unknown whether any flights have been delayed or cancelled following the incident.
