Gary Lineker makes three-word comment after Liverpool handed Diogo Jota injury blow

Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker and former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy have given a worrying assessment of Diogo Jota’s injury after the Reds forward was forced off in the first half against Brentford.

The Portugal international was taken off on a stretcher with a suspected knee injury and was replaced by the returning Mohamed Salah. He will now undergo further examination to establish the extent of the injury.

Speaking on Saturday night’s Match of the Day, Lineker delivered a concerning three-word assessment of the injury. Murphy, on punditry duty, also predicted the severity of the problems that forced Curtis Jones and Darwin Nunez off the pitch in the first half and at half time.

Lineker said of Jota’s injury: “That looked bad.” Murphy then added: “It did, an innocuous, a landing on his knee. He looks like he’s going to be out for a while.

“Curtis Jones is a blow, he’s not the type of lad who comes off with injuries, so he’s probably going to be at least a couple of weeks you would imagine.

“Better news from what Jurgen says on Darwin Nunez because that he’s saying is more of a precaution. So, hopefully he’ll be alright for the final next week.”
