FOUR people have been injured in an explosion overnight.
The front wall of a property on Mont Pinel, off Mont Millais, has been blown out – leaving debris scattered across nearby properties and vehicles.
It is understood that some of those injured are children.
The area is currently cordoned off.
Speaking to the JEP this morning, a neighbour said: “I was asleep in bed and all of a sudden there was this massive blast.
“I don’t know what caused it but it was very powerful. The front of the property has gone and you can now see inside the property and there is debris all over my van.
“The firefighters were at the scene and I think they got everyone to safety.”
In a statement, the States police said: “Emergency services are dealing with an incident that occurred just before 11pm at a property in the vicinity of Le Mont Pinel, St Saviour, on Wednesday, 26th June.
“Four residents were transported to the General Hospital for medical attention, and several others were evacuated from their homes as a precautionary measure.
“The incident is being investigated and the cause remains unknown.
“The area around Mont Pinel is closed but school traffic around the area is not affected and Mont Millais is open.”
St Saviour Constable Kevin Lewis said that there was “a loud bang” heard around 11pm on Wednesday night.
He continued: “We were notified soon after and opened St Saviour’s Parish Hall and staff came in, neighbours were evacuated as a precaution up to the parish hall.”
He added that the residents had since gone to stay with friends or relatives and at least one family had gone to a hotel.
“The parish has a system in place for these types of eventualities.”
