Cantona had to face the music during his playing career for Kung Fu-kicking an opposing fan and criticising France’s national coach.

But since hanging up his boots in 1997, he has turned his hand to theatre, movies and painting.

Now, he has composed a number of songs, and plans to perform them on a tour.

And Cantona is set to play at two Scottish venues as part of a UK-wide show.

He will kick-off the Cantona Sings Eric tour at Glasgow’s O2 Academy on Friday, April 12.

On Saturday, April 13, the footie legend will travel up to Aberdeen Music Hall for a show.

He will also play venues in Leeds, London and Manchester before heading to Dublin.

Cantona isn’t as new to the scene as he claims.

Having contributed lyrics for Lady Sir, a duo formed by his wife, actress and singer Rachida Brakni and Gaëtan Roussel, he had already ventured behind the mic on a few occasions.

He said: “Music has always been a part of my life. I’ve always had music playing.

“Why start today, so many years later? Simply because I had lacked the time before.

“During lockdown, I finally managed to give the guitar a serious go, and even though I’m still a poor guitarist, I felt confident enough to whip a few songs into shape.”

Presale tickets for both Scottish shows go on sale at 10am on Thursday, January 25.

Standard tickets will go on sale the following day at 10am.

Information on tickets can be viewed here.

Cantona first made his name with Leeds before joining United for £1million in 1992.

He went on to win four Premier League titles and two FA Cups during his five turbulent years at Old Trafford.
