‘Fit and healthy’ Scots dad told he has incurable cancer after signs ‘were missed for months’

A BIG-HEARTED group of family and friends are running their first ever marathon together to raise money for a beloved pal with incurable cancer.

Kirsty Tyrrell, 39, said they all want to help Kevin Brady, 44, make some amazing memories with his loved-ones after receiving his devastating diagnosis.

Kevin, of Cumbernauld, was given the heartbreaking news that he had stage 4 cancer in 2022 and has since undergone multiple round of gruelling chemo.

Now the dad-of-two’s kind-hearted friends aim to raise £10,000 so he can try other treatments not available in the UK while also making the most of precious family time.

Kirsty, of Kilsyth, said: “Kevin’s life was turned upside down at just 42 years old he was diagnosed with stage 4 incurable metastatic colon cancer.

“He had been suffering with abdominal pains for months which had been missed by his doctor after several visits and an ultrasound.

“Kevin was such a young, healthy, fit man so this came as a massive shock to him, his family and his friends.

“We have watched Kevin take on 18 rounds of the strongest chemotherapy regimes and enduring their horrific side effects.

“Not to mention the constant routine visits to the hospital for bloods and scans.

“Unfortunately Kevin has also endured several emergency admissions to hospital which has inflicted not only physical and emotional pain for Kevin but for his wife Sharon and young children Sean and Orla too.

“Life has literally been turned upside down for our friends.”

Kirsty along with her family and friends are determined to help him as much as they can.

She said: “He has missed out on so much while being poorly and we want to raise as much for the Bradys as possible, so that they can hopefully make some amazing memories as a family.

“Any money raised could also help towards helping Kevin with alternative treatments and targeted therapies that are not available on the NHS and very costly.

“Kevin was self employed and in a tough manual job so has not been able to continue working due to the treatment and the impact it has had on his physical health.

“It’s took a lot of persuasion, we are almost at two years since Kevin’s diagnosis, and for Kevin and Sharon to let us help them raise awareness in their name is a privilege.

“We’re grateful that we can try the only way we know how to work hard together.

“Both Kevin and Sharon’s families have been absolutely amazing helping them in every way and we as their best friends also want to help as much as we can too.”

Kirsty and eight other fundraisers have signed up for the 26.2 mile marathon in April. Five other loyal pals are also doing the 13.1 mile half marathon.

They have already raised almost £8000 and are aiming to smash their £10000 target.

Kirsty said: “We have never taken part in anything like this, it’s a massive challenge.

“If Kevin can go through all of this tough treatment, then we can most definitely give this a bash.”
