Emergency services raced to an apartment block in Old Trafford on Monday night (February 5) amid reports of a fire. Fire crews received reports of the blaze in a high rise building on Percy Street at around 6.30pm.
A number of fire engines attended the scene, assisted by officers from Greater Manchester Police, to reports of the fire that had erupted in the building’s basement.
It is not known whether all of the apartments were evacuated. The fire was quickly put out before safety checks were carried out at the site by crews.

One person who lives nearby said: “I was walking home from work, and about five fire engines with sirens blaring were going somewhere off Stretford Road.”
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 6.30pm this evening (Monday 5th February), five fire engines from Salford Central, Moss Side and Gorton fire station, were called to reports of a building fire involving the basement of a high-rise property on Percy Street, Old Trafford.
“Crews arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters used specialist equipment to dampen down the area where the fire was and carried out safety checks. Firefighters were in attendance for around twenty minutes.”
