Eamonn Holmes says aim is ‘to walk again’ as he posts photo of himself standing unaided

The GB News host posted a photograph on Instagram of himself standing in a doorway with the caption: “Hard to stand up but my next aim is to walk,” before telling his followers he was off to birthday party.

Holmes, who was born in Belfast, has not been pictured walking unaided in some time. He is regularly seen using a walking frame or crutches since he began his battle with multiple health issues.

In 2021, he opened up about his battle with chronic pain after he was taken to hospital and an MRI scan found he had a dislocated pelvis. In 2022, he underwent back surgery to fix three slipped discs.

In 2023, he was back in hospital after he broke his shoulder.

Upon his return to his GB News programme at the start of this year, he said: “”Basically, I can’t walk. I can do everything… everything above (the waist) works, but it’s the legs.”

The fresh photo comes as he was forced to bow out of his GB News programme early due to ill health last week.

Viewers noticed a difference during an interview on the programme he presents with Isabel Webster, when Homes was suddenly absent halfway through the segment.

A spokesperson for GB News later said: “Eamonn had to finish a little earlier today as he was feeling unwell. He hopes to be back tomorrow.”

He also recently told The Mirror he felt as though he was living on “borrowed time” after his father died from heart attack at his age.

In June, a spokesperson for Holmes and fellow television presenter Ruth Langsford announced the shock news the pair were set to divorce.

Further reports suggested that the 14-years-married couple, who share one son together, had been living “separate lives” for nearly two years.

Friends of the couple told The Sun their relationship had changed after their departure from ITV’s This Morning in 2021.
