Glastonbury: Fireworks go off during Dua Lipa’s set

Dua Lipa received around £200,000 for her headline slot – but she is expected to plough a large percentage of that fee back into her performance and “elaborate” set to make the show as spectacular as possible

Sometimes artists perform at Glastonbury and make a LOSS once they factor in their touring, crew and set costs. Dua is said to have thrown “everything” at the set and production…suggesting an eye-watering amount of money. She recently promised a night of “non-stop, relentless fun” on the night.

Interestingly, the pop sensation attributes her knack for creating chart-topping hits like One Kiss, Levitating and Houdini to her parents, who introduced her to the party scene at a young age.

She shared: “My parents, they’re very lively and they love a party and they’re just fun party people. “I remember being a kid and them taking me everywhere with them. And we would go on holiday and they would go to a bar and there’d be live music, and I would stay there until three o’clock in the morning until I would fall asleep and they would still be up and hanging out and chatting.

“I was always surrounded by music and dancing, and people were having community and these joyous moments. As I was growing up, I was looking for my own version of that, of what they had. So clubbing and going out dancing was such a rite of passage almost. The second I got a little bit older, I was like, I want to go dancing. I want to be free.I want to feel the music and the sweatier I got on a night out.”

Dua Lipa’s parents bravely escaped from unrest in Kosovo back in 1992, making a new home for themselves in London. Her dad was the rockin’ frontman of Oda, whilst her mum hit the books as a law student. Fast forward, and now she’s got Warner Music’s top dog, Max Lousada, totally stoked about her bagging the headline slot at Glasto – with the cherry on top that her epic performance is going global.

Since her first album dropped in 2017, Dua’s been gunning to top the bill at Glastonbury, and she’s aimed to make a triumphant Friday night appearance. Why? So she can soak up the festival vibes over the weekend, of course. Chatting with BBC, she spilled: “It has to be Friday, because I want to party on the Saturday and Sunday! “

Dua’s hoping her fans will bank some absolutely “unbelievable” memories both during her performance and throughout Glasto’s wild weekend. She gushed over the festival’s unique atmosphere, saying: “There’s something about the community and the energy at Glastonbury that is unlike anywhere else. There’s a real sense of togetherness and closeness, and common language. You make these unbelievable memories and you make friends, and you just have stories for the rest of your life.”
