Dr Hilary Jones announced the death of his ‘wonderful’ mother at the age of 97 live on Lorraine on Tuesday morning’s show.
The medic, 70, revealed he attended his late mother Noreen’s funeral over the weekend after she recently passed away.
Show host Lorraine Kelly told her colleague she was ‘so sorry’ for his loss as Dr Hilary shared his memories.
He did not go into detail about when his mother passed away but said that the day was a ‘celebration of her life’.
Dr Hilary told ITV viewers: ‘We celebrated her wonderful life. She was 97. She was a kind, generous and wonderful, remarkable woman.
‘It was a great day just celebrating some of the happy times, it was a fabulous day, just remembering all the caring she gave.
‘She was skilled in antiques and a nurse, she was a great mother, grandmother and great-grandmother we had to opportunity to celebrate her life’.
Dr Hilary added that his mother had a life that was ‘totally lived’ as Lorraine also paid tribute to Noreen.
The ITV presenter recalled when Noreen appeared on her show as a guest to talk about her book.
Dr Hilary joked that she had ‘started her TV career at 93’.
Back in 2019, Noreen was branded an inspiration for publishing her first book in her 90s.
Lorraine praised her ‘brilliant’ book and said it documented memories for her family to have for years to come.
