Doctor Who’s Time Lord appeared to develop a crush on Isaac Newton during Saturday’s episode of the sci-fi show.

At the weekend, the second of the 60th anniversary specials saw the Tardis crash into an apple tree in 1666, just as Isaac (Nathaniel Curtis) witnessed a falling apple that inspired the scientist’s theory of gravity.

David Tennant’s Doctor said to companion Donna (Catherine Tate) that Isaac ‘was so hot’.

He added in an apparent reference to his own sexuality: ‘Oh, is that who I am now?’

It comes after Doctor Who was scolded by a transgender character for calling an alien ‘him’ during the first 60th Anniversary special.

The character was called out by the daughter of former companion Donna Noble for referring to an adorable fluffy creature called Beep The Meep as ‘him’.

Rose, who is played by transgender actress, Yasmin Finney, 19, questioned the Doctor’s assumption that the alien was a ‘he’, asking him: ‘You’re assuming he as a pronoun?’

The Doctor, after realising his mistake, then apologised and asked Meep if it was a ‘he or she or they’, to which the creature replied: ‘My chosen pronoun is the definite article. I am always The Meep’.

Saturday’s hour-long special saw the debut of Yasmin’s character, who became an instant hit with fans after she discovered the mysterious alien that escaped from a crashed spaceship and attempted to hide it in the shed.

Yasmin’s role as trans teen Rose was considered groundbreaking for the show, with her name a sweet nod to The Doctor’s beloved companion Rose Tyler.

The Heartstopper actress was lauded by viewers for her appearance in the episode.

With a secret love for crafts, she showcased her talents by making stuffed toys to sell online, despite Donna’s disapproval, a source of comfort after facing bullying by other teenagers for her transition.

Donna, who at this point was still without her memories of The Doctor, later found the animal, and unsurprisingly is left reeling.

Things took a chaotic turn when the Doctor turned up at Donna’s house, with furious alien military clashing with UNIT agents during their mission to find Meep, meaning the entire Noble family was forced to flee their home.

In a bombshell twist, Meep (voiced by Miriam Margolyes) was then revealed to be the true villain, and vowed to use their spaceship to wipe out the city of London.

Despite the Doctor’s best attempts to hide his identity from Donna, he was forced to give up when they were trapped in Meep’s exploding spaceship, and his longtime friend unlocked her Doctor Donna alter-ego to destroy the ship.

In heartbreaking scenes, Donna tragically died in The Doctor’s arms, but a shocking twist revealed that her abilities had been passed onto her daughter Rose, trickling out through her recreation of her mother’s adventures in her stuffed toys. Not only did Rose rescue her family, but Donna, and all of her memories, were resurrected, bringing one of the show’s most beloved duos back together again.
