Bluey is arguably one of the best children’s series ever made, in part because it’s not just the kids who like it, it’s also extremely enjoyable for adults much of the time with excellent animation, voicework, and parenting situations everyone can relate to.
But sometimes Bluey goes over a cliff and really, really destroys everyone’s emotions. Before this, there is the all-timer episode, Sleepytime, but now? There’s also The Sign, a brand new Bluey episode about 3-4 times the length of a normal one at 28 minutes.
Here’s a summary of the episode, via the LA Times:
“The episode, which was written by series creator Joe Brumm, finds Bluey, Bingo and their parents Chilli (Melanie Zanetti) and Bandit (Dave McCormack) preparing for the wedding of Bandit’s brother Rad (Patrick Brammall) and Bluey’s godmother Frisky (Claudia O’Doherty), two characters who first met in Season 2’s “Double Babysitter.” The title of the episode refers to the “For Sale” sign in front of the Heeler home. Because of Bandit’s new job, they are selling their house and moving, something Bluey, in particular, is not happy about. And while Chilli is trying to be supportive, it’s clear she doesn’t want to move either.”
Bluey’s The Sign currently has a 9.9/10 on IMDB, which ties it with Sleepytime, also at a 9.9. That makes those two the highest-scoring Bluey episodes ever out of dozens and dozens across three seasons. And this is already a show so beloved it lands at #15 on IMDB’s top 250 shows of all time list. Of course, that’s a list that is voted on by adults, not kids, which makes it all the more impressive.
On Twitter, parents are sharing just how much the episode floored or wrecked them:
- Samuel Gavin – “It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say Bluey’s The Sign absolutely f****d me up. My therapist isn’t gonna know what hit her. Sensational television. No I’m not joking. Bandit & Chilli are parenting goals. I love these characters so much.”
- Greg Jenner – “The emotional power of the #Bluey special episode, The Sign, cannot be underestimated. I may need a minute…”
- Kelly Crawford – “My daughter actually admitted that it made her cry and I’ve never known her to get emotional at films or TV. She watched it at 8am and then forced me and her dad to watch it too because she was bursting to talk about it with someone.”
- Cinnamon.exe – “I haven’t cried this hard since the series finale of The Owl House.”
- Aniket Dhar – “I have never clapped and jerked a tear like this ever since the goodbye message of Hologram Janeway in the Season 1 finale of Star Trek Prodigy.”
- Joey Tamburello – “Sweet Jesus! The new episode of #Bluey hits you in all the feels! #TheSign is a 28 minute masterpiece!”
You get the idea. It’s an all-timer for a series that has already produced some of the best episodes on TV, not just for kids shows, but for any shows. A must watch for both kids and their parents, so go check it out now and see if you agree.
