Delays to trains from Manchester Piccadilly due to emergency incident

Trains were disrupted on a line in Manchester this morning as emergency crews dealt with an incident.

Emergency services responded to reports of a ‘casualty on the track’ on the line between Manchester Piccadilly and Crewe. An air ambulance was spotted landing near to Handforth station, just over the border in Cheshire.




British Transport Police said a person had been taken to hospital. In a statement, a spokesperson said: “”Officers were called to Handforth railway station at around 10.15am today (27 January) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, and a person has been taken to hospital.”

The line has since been reopened, though Northern, Transpennine Express and Transport for Wales services between Manchester Piccadilly and Crewe may be delayed.

There may be still be delays of up to 45 minutes or cancellations between Manchester Piccadilly and Crewe.

BTP: Person taken to hospital following reports of ‘casualty on the tracks’

In a statement, a British Transport Police spokesperson said:

“Officers were called to Handforth railway station at around 10.15am today (27 January) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, and a person has been taken to hospital.”

Avanti West Coast between Manchester Piccadilly and London Euston

Northern between Manchester Piccadilly and Alderley Edge / Crewe

Transport for Wales between Manchester Piccadilly and Milford Haven

Northern: All lines blocked between Manchester Piccadilly and Crewe

Disruption expected until 2pm

Trains are being cancelled or delayed.
