A 38-year-old man has been charged with a number of offences in connection with a record £10 million suspected cocaine seizure in Co Armagh last week.
The haul – discovered on Monday December 11 in a lorry packed with meat products during a routine patrol in Jonesborough – was the largest in the 22-year history of the PSNI.
They stopped a suspicious lorry and inside found dozens of parcels of suspected cocaine in boxes containing frozen meat. The Organised Crime Branch is now investigating the source of the shipment.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Commander Superintendent Norman Haslett said the sophistication of how they were concealed indicates the “scale of criminality involved”.
A 38-year-old man arrested and released on bail last week has now been charged with a number of offences, including possession of Class A controlled drugs, driving while disqualified and paying for sexual services.
He will appear before Newry Magistrates Court on Wednesday December 20.
As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
