Chaos engulfed London’s Charing Cross after a trespasser jumped on the rail tracks.
Hundreds of commuters were evacuated after the alarm was raised at the station during rush hour.
Trains between London Bridge and Charring Cross were halted, while others were cancelled or diverted.
Pictures circulating social media showed a man dressed in all black standing on top of a railway bridge over the Thames.
Managing director of Southeastern Railway, Steve White, said: ‘The trespasser has been removed from the railway and all lines are open.
‘We will work to restore services as quickly as possible.’
Crowds of people were seen outside Embankment, King’s Cross, Cannon Street, Victoria and multiple others as staff tried to implement a queuing system.
Police rushed to Charing Cross and several vans were spotted outside the station.
By 7pm, Southeastern Railway said the trespasser had been apprehended, while the power to the line switched back on.
One rail company suggested that major disruption would continue until 8.15pm.
There were delays on the Overground as well as the Piccadilly, Victoria, Bakerloo and Central lines on the Tube.
