With Paris Fashion Week fast approaching, it was unfortunate timing for a break. But when Victoria Beckham injured her foot two weeks before the show, it didn’t stop her from getting the collection, and herself, onto the runway.
She took her bow on crutches, and came out to kiss husband David and family, who were sitting front row.
“I did it all,” joked husband David when congratulated on the show. But he was kidding, giving all credit to his wife.
Finishing up ahead of the show was a challenge for her, but she completed it with aplomb, he said.
“She’s good. It’s been a nightmare for her. She’s in pain but she’s all right. She’s strong. [The collection] is out, and that’s the most important thing,” he said.
Ahead of the show, David made the rounds of the room in L’hôtel Salomon de Rothschild personally greeting and hugging almost every guest in a front row stacked with close friends.
The family turned out to support Victoria, with David, daughter Harper, sons Cruz and Brooklyn, along with Brooklyn’s wife Nicola Peltz front and center.
Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli sat with the Beckham family, and complimented Cruz on his suit and red tie. “It’s different, but I kinda like it,” Cruz said of trying a new look, complete with ‘70s style glasses.
Shanina Shaik talked about her recently launched beauty line, Sala, which has started small with a single mascara. But she has big plans. The Australian model intends to grow the line with skin care and wellness products.
“My job is to always feel and look my best and part of that is skin care and taking care of yourself so I really love that for myself but more importantly helping others as well,” she said.
The process of figuring out what the brand would be took a long time, Shaik said. She created mood boards for years before getting to launch.
With one product out, she intends to build more.
“More skin care, move toward that maybe rather than make up so much,” she said, citing Korean beauty routines.
“I think Korean skin care and beauty is the future. They have a very natural approach but then have that scientific approach of not using so many ingredients. Our products should be very simple.”
The Victoria Beckham brand, which launched skin care in 2019, gave guests their cleanser as a parting gift.
The brand then did a second run-through with a different and more buyer-heavy guest list, during which protesters from PETA disrupted the runway show.
