Despite only being out for a few days now, FromSoftware ‘s eagerly anticipated Elden Ring expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, is being review bombed on Steam. Broken, battered players, chewed up and spat out, publicly admit defeat, claiming that the difficulty level has been tuned too high.
At the time of this writing, the game’s overall Steam user rating has dropped to Mixed, wildly at odds with its critical reception, which officially knocked The Witcher 3’s Blood and Wine off its perch to become the most acclaimed piece of DLC ever made. While the game’s performance on PC leaves much to be desired, the most common complaint seems to come from players who forgot what they were getting themselves in for and what would be asked of them.
The most delicious irony is that gaming journalists, famously worse at games than their readers, inexplicably cleared the content and wrote guides for others to follow. Even with that added advantage, gamers are dropping like flies, refunding the game and blaming FromSoftware, Miyazaki, and just about everything but their skill level.
