Bristol Rovers 0-2 Fleetwood Town live: Reaction as 10-man Gas beaten at home again

“I thought Brandon was our one to go to again. I thought he showed his quality. We still want to get him high up the pitch but the circumstances with personnel that we’ve got at the moment isn’t allowing us to do that. We might be able to materialise that this weekend. I thought he showed moments of quality.

“I thought it was a difficult night for Harry. It never really came off for him and the game bypassed him a little bit so we’ll look for improvements in relation to that.

“Elkan was finding his feet in lower league football which is different to what he’s been playing. That first goal is just an example of being beaten in the channel so I think improvements from all but I think there’s a severe lack of capability in the group to back up a physical performance, which we had at the weekend, on a Tuesday night when the pressure is on.”

“I’ve watched it. If he books Chrissy like he did, I’ve got no problem with that, but he’s got to book three or four other players including the two that were wrestling Chrissy and had hold of him in the goal and in and around the goal mouth to start with.

“We’ll accept that second booking and sending off but the consistency has to come with the other players getting booked as well.”

“Well, disappointed to lose the game. Unfortunately, we’ve followed a similar pattern that has happened too often this season where we’ve had a boost of a couple of good performances and victories to boot and then not being able to follow it up physically and game-wise.

“The bit of physicality against our backline, a couple of poor moments in terms of defending two crosses has led to the opposition being ahead. We still had the two best chances of the first half and then a real sucker punch of a set-piece goal against.

“As pressure came onto our game as always happened we’ve really struggled holding that pressure. Being able to play and execute and really in terms of our final third play from that point on. We were chasing the game and created very little.”

In a higher position, the attacking midfield covers a significant distance to eventually win a free-kick on the right-hand side of the box.

Stopped a Fleetwood attack but a few of those have been built up. Would’ve been a soft call for that challenge alone.

Bringing Grant and Gordon on has allowed Rovers to change their formation. The pair are playing right-back and left-back respectively with Crama and Baggott the two centre-backs.

Again, no one really gambles but it gets a nick off a Fleetwood man for a corner that prevails to nothing.

Home fans want a red for a strong challenge on Tristan Crama. Did look nasty.

The first goal at this level is always so crucial and Fleetwood went into the second half in a great position, now they’re cruising. The game is exactly where they want it and they’ll be more than happy to let Rovers have more of the ball which so far hasn’t caused them any major issues.

Good block from Crama. That was dangerous as Coughlan was in all sorts of space to cross.

Find more gaps and playing with a better intensity. Just need to find the extra gear to convert that into chances.

Bristol Rovers need to buck up their ideas because this isn’t working. Fleetwood in a perfect position.

The long balls don’t seem to be working for the Gas here. Fleetwood perfectly happy to just head them away or see them out.

Rovers pushing but struggling to actually create a clear chance. Fleetwood in an ideal position really.

Thomas sneaks into the box and puts in a cross that Lynch pushes away. Would’ve reached Vaughan for a tap in if he hadn’t.

Rovers are seeing more of the ball at the moment which Fleetwood are happy to let them do, but the gaps aren’t seeming to open up as the hosts seek an equaliser before half-time which they probably deserve.

The forward skips past his man after a short corner is played with an eventual ricochet falling to James Wilson who didn’t fancy the strike, setting up Kamil Conteh instead with Vaughan reaching the follow up after a deflection but from an offside position.

Lovely from Aguilera to play through Thomas who takes a touch before attempting to shoot which probably gave the Fleetwood man enough time to get across. Corner Gas.

Cynical foul from the Bristol Rovers defender apparently. Not sure about that one.

That’s such a frustrating one for Hunt who only came back recently. Luke Thomas will be coming on.

Gives Matt Taylor the chance to speak to some of his players. There have been a few bright moments but the defending has been poor so far from the Gas.

Lovely ball over the top from Tristan Crama finds Antony Evans in space whose square ball finds Chris Martin but his touch goes straight at Jay Lynch in goal. Point-blank save there – not sure he knew much about that.

Great strike from Brendan Wiredu but the defending was pretty abject.

Baggott looked closest to the ball there but I don’t think a shot was registered there. Good ball in again from Vale.

A bit deeper this one but Vale just body checked by Ryan Broom.

The wing-back puts in the delivery which evades everyone. Not a bad ball that, no one really went for it.
