A large section of the M60 is closed this morning after a car crashed into a barrier and flipped onto its roof. A seven mile stretch of the anti-clockwise carriageway between Stockport and Denton is shut following the crash at 5.45am.
In a statement National Highway said: “A car struck the nearside barrier, overturned and came to rest on its roof. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue and North West Ambulance Services attended.
“North West Motorway Police remain on scene and will be carrying out collision investigation work. Once complete, recovery and collision clear-up work can begin.
“National Highways traffic officers and service providers are also on scene providing assistance with traffic management.”

Man taken to hospital following crash
We’ve had a statement from the fire service now. A spokesperson said a man was rescued from the overturned car and taken to hospital following the crash.
They said:
At around 5.45am on Saturday, December 30, fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the M60 near Stockport, between junctions 25 and 24 anticlockwise.
Three fire engines from Whitehill, Stockport and Ashton fire stations, as well as the technical response unit from Ashton, quickly attended the incident. The collision involved one car which was on its roof upon crews’ arrival.
Firefighters extricated a man from the car, who was then taken to hospital by North West Ambulance Service. GMFRS crews were in attendance for about 40 minutes.

Drivers are being advised to follow the solid circle diversion signs
- Exit the M60 anti-clockwise at J27
- At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto the A626 northbound until the B6167 roundabout
- At the roundabout, take the 4th exit onto the B6167 northbound and continue until the A57 roundabout
- Turn right and join the A57 eastbound and then continue onward to re-join the M60 at J24
