A barista has slammed mobile ordering while detailing the customer habits that ‘grind [her] gears’ as she begged people to go back to ordering in store.
Haley, who is based in New York and works at Blank Street Coffee, frequently posts about her day-to-day life on her TikTok, where she boasts more than 1,900 followers.
Recently, the coffee lover took to the video-sharing platform to dish on why she ‘hates’ mobile ordering.
In a viral clip, which has so far amassed more than 18,000 views, Haley shared the annoying behaviors customers exhibit when ordering ahead.
‘I firmly believe that mobile coffee ordering has just gone a little too far and there’s a specific phenomenon that grinds my gears more than no other when it comes to mobile coffee ordering,’ she said.
She explained that the people who ordered from their phone while in store and just expect their order to be ready immediately frustrated her.
‘It’s the people that come into the store and stand in front at the register with their phones and are like, “I’m ordering on the app.”‘
Haley then recalled an irritating story of a customer who ordered ahead.
The content creator and barista revealed that a customer came into the coffee shop and placed an order for black coffee on his phone and showed Haley.
After picking it up, he came back an hour later and complained that the coffee had become ‘warm.’
Haley explained that she wanted to avoid an argument, and so she just gave the customer a new drink and he went on his way.
‘It was warm because you came an hour ago. Of course it wasn’t hot anymore, it was old coffee,’ she added.
At the end of the clip, she said: ‘I think we should all go back to just ordering in the store like the good ol’ days.’
Other baristas flooded the comments section and echoed Haley’s frustrations by sharing their own stories.
One person said: ‘Me at the people who order in the parking lot and come in and immediately ask where their order is.’
Someone else added: ‘When I worked at Starbucks people would drive up EVERY DAY asking where their mobile order was that they just placed .5 seconds ago.’
Another user said: ‘Everyday there is a man who mobile orders 2 drinks and everyday he doesn’t come pick them up.’
One person commented: ‘I once had someone pull up to the speaker and tell me they were currently ordering on the app.’
