Beverly Hills Cop 4 first reactions land ahead of Netflix release

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F finally lands on Netflix next month, and we now have the first reactions to the long-awaited new movie.

Eddie Murphy reprises his iconic role as Axel Foley, who returns to Beverly Hills after his daughter Jane’s (Taylour Paige) life is threatened. Luckily, Axel has support from his old friends Taggart (John Ashton) and Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) to crack the case.

Those lucky few to have already seen Beverly Hills Cop 4 have now taken to Twitter to share their reactions to the movie.

So has it been worth the wait?

“Axel Foley and company are sooo back in Beverly Hills causing chaos and bringing laughs. And the soundtrack is straight outta 1984!,” wrote Variety‘s Jazz Tangcay.

JoBlo wrote: “Had a blast with Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. Definitely feels like the start of a new series of movies. As much of a tribute to Beverly Hills Cop 2 as the original.”

ComicBook.com‘s Brandon Davis wasn’t quite as enthusiastic, saying it “didn’t capture the legacy sequel magic like others”, while Carla Renata called the sequel “bananas”, adding: “Eddie is back and you won’t believe what he has up his sleeve for this one.”

Journalist Daric L. Cottingham was full of praise for the sequel: “This was such a good and fun action comedy, nostalgia sure but omg it’s a truly hilarious film. Eddie Murphy is a star as always and I can’t stress enough how funny it was. More action, more comedy like this. I genuinely enjoyed this film & it’s going to hit more at home.”

Jerry Bruckheimer returned to produce the new movie, which has been directed by Mike Molloy.

The producer previously assured fans that they can expect more of the same from the return of Axel Foley, saying: “Eddie’s such an incredible artist. He can do drama, he can do comedy – he can do anything.

“And he’s the same Axel Foley. He’s still on the streets. He’s still doing what he does. Obviously with age you get wiser. But he still has the twinkle in his eye.”

Beverly Hills Cop 4 also stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Axel’s new partner Detective Bobby Abbott and Kevin Bacon as Captain Cade Grant, while the movie also brings back Paul Reiser as Jeffrey Friedman and Bronson Pinchot as Serge.

As you wait for the new movie, you can rewatch all three previous movies right now on Netflix.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is released on Netflix on July 3.
