Belgrave Middleway hit and run leaves pedestrian with life threatening injuries

A pedestrian was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car driver in a hit-and-run crash last night (January 13). The collision happened on Belgrave Middleway in Birmingham city centre, near Highgate Road, at around 6.30pm.

The pedestrian, a man in his 40s, remains in a serious but stable condition. Police said the vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene.



Officers later spotted a vehicle being driven dangerously, police said. The vehicle was traced to an address where two men, aged 39 and 27, were arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

They remain in police custody for questioning. West Midlands Police has today appealed for witnesses of the crash to contact the force.

Detective Sgt Julie Lyman said: “We’re appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and recalls seeing a collision, or was travelling on the road with a dash cam, to contact us. A man has suffered traumatic injuries and we need to piece together what happened.”
