Amy Dowden made an emotional return to the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom on Saturday night which left viewers in floods of tears. The Welsh dancer has had to sit out this season due to receiving treatment for breast cancer.
However, she has popped up sporadically throughout the series, most recently appearing on Strictly spin-off It Takes Two on Friday night, where she interviewed the celebrities who have been eliminated from the competition. While fans were thrilled to see her on their screens, at no point did she mention that she would be appearing during the show’s finale.
The brave performer drew massive cheers from the studio audience as she was revealed at the back of the stage as part of the lavish opening number performed by the professional dancers. Grinning broadly, Amy joined them in dancing to This Time I Know It’s for Real by Donna Summer.
She didn’t wear her wig and donned a stunning long black and white dress that covered the boot she is currently wearing after fracturing her foot just days after finishing chemotherapy.
“Absolutely gutted and heartbroken as this means the plans for me to dance in the Strictly Ballroom this year are no longer possible. This is what has kept me going the past few months,” she wrote on her Instagram at the time.
Thankfully she found a work around and her appearance delighted fans who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their feelings.
