BBC Strictly fans ‘crying my eyes out’ as Amy Dowden makes emotional appearance in final | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Amy Dowden made an emotional return to the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom on Saturday night which left viewers in floods of tears. The Welsh dancer has had to sit out this season due to receiving treatment for breast cancer.

However, she has popped up sporadically throughout the series, most recently appearing on Strictly spin-off It Takes Two on Friday night, where she interviewed the celebrities who have been eliminated from the competition. While fans were thrilled to see her on their screens, at no point did she mention that she would be appearing during the show’s finale.

The brave performer drew massive cheers from the studio audience as she was revealed at the back of the stage as part of the lavish opening number performed by the professional dancers. Grinning broadly, Amy joined them in dancing to This Time I Know It’s for Real by Donna Summer.

She didn’t wear her wig and donned a stunning long black and white dress that covered the boot she is currently wearing after fracturing her foot just days after finishing chemotherapy.

“Absolutely gutted and heartbroken as this means the plans for me to dance in the Strictly Ballroom this year are no longer possible. This is what has kept me going the past few months,” she wrote on her Instagram at the time.

Thankfully she found a work around and her appearance delighted fans who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their feelings.

A viewer with the handle @geordiegalg wrote: “Crying my eyes out seeing Amy back where she belongs. This is going to be an epic final.” @MsNottledim chimed in: “It’s got me all emotional seeing Amy in the pro dance. This time last year I didn’t know if I’d get to enjoy another #Strictly series.”

@Greentrucks22 gushed: “Seeing Amy in the group dance with the biggest smile on her face may have ruined me #Strictly.” (sic)

@_MollyJacobsen said: “So so happy to see Amy on the Strictly floor again this season! What an absolute trooper (also made me cry!) #Strictly.”

@MissPaget admitted: “Just had a little tear seeing #Amy back on the #strictly dance floor! #StrictlyFinal #StrictlyComeDancing.”

Meanwhile @HareBrainedIdea said: “OMG Amy and the tears have started already #Strictly.”

Amy’s appearance was one of the first hightlights of a jam packed final which sees the final three couples perform three dances, one chosen by the judges, one chosen by them, and their show dance.

Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola have chosen their American Smooth to Ain’t That A Kick In The Head by Robbie Williams for their favourite dance of the series. Their show dance is a Jennifer Lopez Megamix, alongside the judges picking their fiery Paso Doble to Insomnia by 2WEI.

Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell have chosen their Couple’s Choice to This Woman’s Work by Maxwell as their favourite of the series. Their show dance will be to a La La Land Medley and the judges have chosen the Samba to Young Hearts Run Free by Candi Staton.

Meanwhile, Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmans’s favourite is the Argentine Tango to Tattoo by Loreen. Their show dance will be to Friend Like Me by Ne-Yo and the judges picked the Quickstep to Puttin’ On The Ritz by Gregory Porter.
