France coach Didier Deschamps has also arrived, describing it is privilege for someone to win this trophy. He said it is a team sport, but the Ballon d’Or is the highest individual prize there is in football.

The former England striker, who was runner-up in the 1986 Ballon d’Or, says Jude Bellingham will be the winner when asked to pick the player likely to pick up the gong in 2028.
Meanwhile, former Chelsea and Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard is in town and says he is enjoying his retirement.
“It is perfect. I am enjoying life, family, kids and doing what I want. It’s a perfect life. The kids are playing football and I watch on TV when I can. At the moment, I don’t miss playing football. Let’s see in a few months!”

Fresh from a derby-day triumph at Man United, Erling Haaland is first to speak on the Red Carpet.
“Yeah, it was a really great night,” he says when asked about turning up to the Ballon d’Or on the back of a 3-0 rout of The Red Devils. “We’ve been enjoying it.”
On the Ballon d’Or itself, he adds: “It’s a great night. I’m looking forward to meeting a couple of my mates. It’s going to be a great night with a lot of nice footballers in the same room.”
Rodri: “It is fantastic (to be here). It was an unbelievable season for us last year. The team deserves everything. Seeing my teammates here is so special because we achieved something special last year.”
Bernardo Silva: “Yeah it was a great season for us. Now we try to keep going and try do it again. Congrats to the whole club and everyone here tonight.”

The winger came in 17th and revealed it was a dream come true to be at such a ceremony. “I couldn’t imagine that one day I would come here, I am so happy. It’s a pleasure to be with these players, the greatest footballers are here and I’m so happy to be part of them.”
18.17 – Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez has arrived and is all smiles
The Argentina World Cup-winning goalkeeper came in 15th place and says not much has changed despite achieving legendary status with his country.
“I’m just keeping the same life. I’m a family man, but what we did with the national team incredible. I’m just trying to keep winning games with the national team and Aston Villa. It was an incredible achievement for the country but life moves on.
“It’s a proud moment for me and my family and I want to enjoy tonight.”

18.08 – Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse is in the house
“When you are Ballon d’Or you are the best player in the world, nothing is better than this. I’m proud to here among great players,” said Cisse, a former Lord of the Manor of Frodsham.
He adds: “1991 was my favourite (Ballon d’Or). Jean-Pierre Papin, I’m big fan, he was my hero.”

Organised and presented by magazine France Football, 100 journalists from FIFA’s top-ranked member nations pick five players from the 30-player shortlist, ranking each player from 1-5 with the votes allocated in descending order.
The player with the most votes wins the top award.
Karim Benzema of Real Madrid won the 2022 Ballon d’Or by the second biggest margin ever.
Benzema beat Sadio Mane by 356 votes. Cristiano Ronaldo’s Ballon d’Or victory in 2016, when he won the award for the fourth time, is the only other occasion where a player has won by more votes. Ronaldo beat Lionel Messi by 429 votes seven years ago.
The voting format at the 2022 Ballon d’Or saw 100 journalists from FIFA’s top 100 nations select their top five from the 30-man shortlist.
The players on each jury member’s list were awarded points, as follows:

Welcome to our live blog on the morning of the Ballon d’Or 2023 ceremony as we build up to the most prestigious individual awards in football with many of the biggest names in football set to be present.
In terms of the key timings for you to be aware of, the red carpet arrivals will begin from 18:00 UK time, as the great and good of football take their places at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris. The main ceremony will then begin at 19:45 and is scheduled to finish at 21:30.
In addition to the main awards – which are expected to be claimed by Lionel Messi and Aitana Bonmati, respectively – there will also be a host of other categories, including the Puskas Award for the best goal, the Yashin Trophy for the best goalkeeper, and the Kopa Trophy for the best Under-21 player.
