Aston Villa’s opening bid for Middlesbrough forward Morgan Rogers was rejected on Thursday night.

Villa will now consider a revised bid for the 21-year-old, who only joined Championship side Middlesbrough six months ago from Manchester City.

He impressed against Villa in the FA Cup and was previously discussed by them when they sold Jack Grealish to City.

Rogers, who was born just outside Birmingham in Halesowen, started his career at West Brom – making one substitute appearance – and joined Manchester City in 2019.

He did not play a senior game for City and had loan spells at Lincoln, Bournemouth and Blackpool.

Boro signed him last summer and he has made 31 appearances this season, scoring six times, helping Carrick’s side into the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Villa are set to sign right-back Kosta Nedeljkovic from Red Star Belgrade after he undergoes his medical on Friday.

The 18-year-old will return to Red Star on loan.
