Arsenal ‘make £22m swoop for Borja Mayoral’ after Getafe striker bagged 12 LaLiga goals this season and formed potent partnership with Mason Greenwood

Arsenal have reportedly made a £22million swoop for Getafe striker Borja Mayoral.

The Real Madrid academy graduate has been starring alongside Mason Greenwood in La Liga this season.

Brentford and Fulham have also been linked with the 26-year-old after scoring 12 league goals for Getafe. 

But Arsenal have made the first move as Mikel Arteta looks to sign a new striker this month, according to The Sun.

Ivan Toney was the Spaniard’s first-choice to galvanise his misfiring frontline.

However, Brentford have slapped a huge £100million price tag on the 27-year-old.

Arteta had cast doubt over the possibility of signing a striker after his team’s latest poor showing in front of goal.

The Gunners squandered a glut of excellent chances, particularly in the first half, in their loss to Liverpool on Sunday leading to supporters calling on the club to land a new striker this month after the final whistle.

However, Arteta said: ‘At the moment it does not look realistic (that Arsenal will sign a striker).

‘What my job is, and what we have to do is improve our players and try to get better results with the players we have.

‘One thing is what we need and another is what we can do. 

‘What we need to do now is stick behind those players, give them some love, train them and make sure they visualise something very different to what is actually happening now. They’ve done it.’
