Samsung is also preparing to integrate generative AI technology in its Galaxy-branded devices as it seeks partnerships with Microsoft and Google.
Samsung claims creating an AI smartphone will help the company regain smartphone leadership against Apple
Tim Cook states that the company has played with AI for years. From Fall detection on the Apple Watch and Live Voice in iOS 17, AI rests at the heart of these features. However, the company is integrating the technology further into applications for additional features. For instance, generative AI can offer a wide range of utilities in the Messages app as well as Siri.
When we shipped iOS 17, it included features like Personal Voice and Live Voicemail. AI is at the heart of these features. You can go all the way to the life-saving features on the watch and phone, like Fall Detection, Crash Detection, and ECG on the watch. These would not be possible without AI. We don’t label them as such, because we labeled them as to what their consumer benefit is, but the fundamental tech behind it is AI and machine learning.
Besides Apple, Samsung is also looking for partners to get generative AI working in its Galaxy-branded devices. According to Revegnus on X, Samsung has approached Microsoft and Google to implement OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Bard on the Galaxy devices. Samsung also believes that AI can help the company regain its original position in the market, which it lost to Apple in 10 years. While these are mere claims at this stage, it remains to be seen how the company will use the technology on the Galaxy S series of devices.

This potentially means the technology would be tamed and controlled concerning user data and privacy. Furthermore, he also states that the company will roll out features over time.
