Airports on high alert in bid to stop wanted man fleeing UK after boy killed in tragic ‘hit-and-run’

Airports across the country are now on high alert in a bid to prevent a suspect from fleeing the UK after a tragic ‘hit-and-run.’ Police today issued an all-ports warning as they continue the hunt for a man suspected of being involved in a fatal collision in Coventry.

Dolars Aleksanders is wanted after a young Keaton Slater, just 12, was tragically killed on Radford Road. Aleksanders is wanted on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, West Midlands Police said. Detectives have urged people to call 999 if they see the 21-year-old – and ‘not to approach’ him.

The schoolboy sadly died after being struck by a BMW on Radford Road at around 4.30pm on Friday, June 14. He sustained catastrophic injuries and died at the scene.

Today, in a briefing at Coventry Central Police Station Superintendent Paul Joyce told CoventryLive that an all-ports warning had been issued. Superintendent Paul Joyce said: “We have named the individual who we believe is responsible for this matter because we see that as the most direct route of getting them into custody. It is our priority to identify this individual, to bring him before the courts and to seek some justice for the family.”

He explained: “We have put an all-ports warning out there just to try and locate this individual, to see if he has tried to leave the country. I would like to urge anybody who knows anything about this matter to come forward and talk to us, anybody that is looking after any of the people that are involved in this matter, they need to contact us, anybody that is hiding somebody or if you are responsible yourself I would really urge to come forward and do the right thing.”

Superintendent Joyce also issued a warning to anybody who may be harbouring 21-year-old Aleksanders. He said: “Anybody that is knowingly harbouring somebody for an offence such as this will be committing offences themselves and therefore I cannot stress enough the gravity of the importance around doing that.”

He added: “It is the most tragic set of circumstances that you could imagine. We are currently supporting the family with specially trained officers, there is a huge investigation team that is set up in order to try and find those who are responsible and we cannot thank the public enough so far for their cooperation with regards to trying to locate those that are responsible.”
