Van Dijk and Co pull off defensive masterclass

The Dutch defence was tested heavily by France’s talented attackers, but at no point did the Netherlands backline look shaky.

Van Dijk led by example, while their keeper Verbruggen was also impressive.

Youngster Simons would be disappointed to have his thunder strike ruled out.

No Mbappe no party for France

France, playing without their injured star forward Mbappe, struggled in front of the goal.

The 2018 world champions had a whopping 16 attempts at goal but failed to find the net against a robust Dutch defence.
