Ellie Bamber is seen playing Kate Moss for the first time as she recreates the mode’s iconic 30th birthday look

Actress Ellie Bamber, 27, has been spotted in Kate Moss’ iconic birthday dress as she continues to film for the biopic of the model titled Moss and Freud. The film, backed by Kate, 50, who helped cast Ellie for the role, is set to tell the story of her relationship with artist Lucian Freud, who died aged 88 in 2011.

In a first look at Ellie taking on the role of Kate, she is seen wearing a very low cut, midnight blue vintage sequin gown that her off-screen counterpart Kate wore to Claridge’s to celebrate her 30th, back in 2004. The theme for the occasion that went down in history as one of London’s most decadent parties was The Beautiful And Damned.

Ellie completed her transformation into the famous supermodel with big blonde curls, strappy gold heels, red nail varnish and a cigarette.

Upon giving her approval for the biopic two years ago, Kate said: “Sitting for Lucian was an honour and incredible experience. After watching The Phone Call, I knew that James [Lucas] would convey the emotion in the storytelling in a fitting way, one this memoir deserves.

“Having been involved in the project and script development from the beginning, I am now very excited to see the film come to life.”

Kate added: “As this is such a personal story of mine it has been essential that I be involved with James [Lucas] in all aspects as the project has developed. I am thrilled by the recent casting and excited that the film will begin shooting soon, I cannot wait to see it.”

The biopic will explore the relationship that developed between Kate and Lucien in 2002. At the time, Kate was pregnant with her daughter.

And in seven-hour stints over the course of nine months, Kate went to Lucien’s Holland Park Studio to pose for a nude painting – where the two developed a close relationship.

The painting was later sold for £3.9 million. Kate herself was left with a permanent reminder of her time with Lucien, as he hand-tattooed a pair of swallows on her.

Speaking at a press conference announcing the film last year, she said: “He didn’t really like the picture, and I didn’t really,” she continued. “I mean, I had a great time. [But] it’s not, like, my favourite Lucian painting.”
