A murder investigation has been launched after a woman in her 50s was found dead at a luxury five star hotel.
The woman was found dead at the Pennyhill Park Hotel in Bagshot, Surrey last Sunday morning.
The hotel, which sits in 120 acres of parkland, is described as ‘Surrey’s most luxurious spa and hotel retreat’ and located around two miles from Bagshot Park where Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh lives.
The luxury property is also home to the Rugby Football Union’s Centre of Athletic Development as well as being a regular training venue for the national squad.
The men’s team recently stayed and trained at the five-star hotel during the Six Nations earlier this year.
A 60-year-old man from Devon has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at this time.
It is also believed that the victim and suspect were known to each other, Surrey Police said.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Debbie Birch said: ‘Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time.
‘The investigation is in the early stages and a specialist team of officers are working around the clock to follow up enquiries.’
A Surrey Police spokesperson added: ‘A 60-year-old man from Devon has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody at this time.
‘It is believed that the victim and suspect were known to each other.
‘An investigation, led by Surrey Police and Sussex Police’s Major Crime Team, is underway to establish the circumstances of the woman’s death. These enquiries remain ongoing.’
Prices for the 124 rooms at the hotel range between £300 and £1,200 per night while memberships for a seven-day joining fee at the hotel’s club cost £750 to join and then £3,735 annually.
The hotel website says of the property: ‘Our award-winning spa is vast and has the best of the best for you to explore: with over 20 spa experiences, innovative treatments and all the little luxuries perfect for escaping the stresses of normal life.
‘So whether your soul needs soothing, tastebuds need tantilising, or your body and brain needs challenging, Pennyhill Park can unlock it all.
‘Come to indulge in the best, be at your best, realise your potential, and we’ll take care of the rest.’
