St Budeaux crash updates as air ambulance and emergency services rush to scene

An air ambulance has landed in St Budeaux after a ‘major’ crash was reported this morning. According to eyewitnesses, police crews, fire engines and paramedics have been on the scene in Victoria Road since around 9am today (Sunday, March 24).


An air ambulance has been photographed landing in St Budeaux park. One eyewitness told PlymouthLive Devon and Cornwall Police had closed the road, with the South Western Ambulance Service and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service also in attendance.



Plymouth Citybus said there had been a ‘major’ collision on the road and several buses will be diverted as a result. In a post on X, it said: “There has been a major accident on Victoria Road. Services #PCB43, #PCB50 and #PCB51 will be diverted via Peter’s Park Lane, passed MAP School, and onto Roman Way, and onto the double roundabout. Inbound and outbound. Expect delays. We will be unable to serve Victoria Road.”

Police investigation work underway

An Inrix update states that investigation work is underway with the road still closed. It states: “Victoria Road in both directions closed, slow traffic due to accident investigation work from Row Lane (St Budeaux) to A38 The Parkway (St Budeaux Junction, Plymouth). Road has been closed since around 11am this morning.”

Buses affected

Bus routes affected by the closure include the 43, 50 and 51.

Fire service called to scene of crash

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has said three fire engines responded to the incident on Victoria Road, which remains closed at this time.

Victoria Road closed eastbound

An Inrix update now suggests Victoria Road is closed in the eastbound direction, rather than westbound as initially reported.

“Victoria Road Eastbound closed, slow traffic due to accident from Row Lane (St Budeaux) to A38 The Parkway ( St Budeaux Junction, Plymouth). Note change of location.”

According to Plymouth Citybus, the road is expected to remain closed for most of the day.

Victoria Road closed southbound

Inrix reports: “Victoria Road Southbound closed, slow traffic due to accident near the double roundabout at Normandy Way.”

‘Vehicles and pedestrian’ involved, says local

Several eyewitnesses have reported to PlymouthLive the collision has involved at least one pedestrian and a vehicle. One person said: “There is a crash at Beaudaux involving numerous vehicles and a pedestrian.”

We are awaiting more information from the emergency services.

Crash near Ernesettle roundabouts

According to eyewitnesses and Google’s traffic maps, the collison took place near the double Ernesettle roundabouts.

Buses diverted

Traffic monitor Inrix reports: “Victoria Road in both directions partially blocked, slow traffic due to accident near the double roundabout at Normandy Way.”

Paramedics, air ambulances and rapid response at the scene

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We received a 999 call at 09:44 this morning (Sunday 24 March) regarding an incident in Plymouth. We dispatched the following resources – 3 double crewed land ambulances, 2 air ambulances, 2 Operations Officers and a rapid response vehicle.”

‘Massive crash’

One local resident said: “Three or four ambulances multiple police cars to helicopter ambulances and the top of Victoria Road is closed.”

Victoria Road likely to be closed for rest of day

In an update on X, Plymouth Citybus has said Victoria Road is expected to be close for the rest of the day.

It said: “The major accident on Victoria Road is ongoing, and we have been advised the closure is likely to last for the rest of the day. Services will be unable to serve Victoria Road inbound and outbound. Thank you for your patience.”
