Sock problem delays Chelsea v Arsenal WSL match by 30 minutes | Offbeat News

Chelsea took the sock issue in their stride and had a three-goal lead at half time, eventually finishing up comfortable 3-1 winners.

A WSL match between Chelsea and Arsenal kicked off 30 minutes late due to clashing socks.

Both teams turned out for the warm-up in white socks, forcing the Gunners to dash to the Chelsea Megastore to buy a different colour after the ref objected.

They re-emerged onto the Stamford Bridge pitch about half an hour later in the black socks that Chelsea use for their away kit.

Black tape was covering the Nike logo on the front – as Arsenal use Adidas – but the Chelsea logo and blue strip were partially visible on some players.

Chelsea didn’t appear fazed by the delay and three first-half goals – one from Lauren James and a brace from Sjoeke Nusken – put them firmly in control.

The Gunners pulled one back in the 86th minute due to a Macario own goal, but there was to be no late comeback.

The 3-1 win moved Chelsea three points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table.
