A badger caused thousands of pound’s worth of damage after breaking into a family’s home.
The animal gnawed through a garden door and wreaked havoc at the Isle of Wight property on Valentine’s Day.
Homeowner Charlotte Glazier filmed the condition she found her house in when she returned that evening.
The badger is believed to have been unharmed in the incident and was rescued by the Badger Trust.
The family arrived back to the bizarre scene at their home in Ryde on Wednesday after a trip away.
Upon seeing the state of the kitchen, Ms Glazier said she thought they had been burgled.
“All the doors of the cupboards were open, all the porridge oats were on the floor,” she said.
“I went into the pantry area and there was a hole in the door.”
She described it as looking like “something from a horror show”.
Walking up the stairs, the family noticed scrape marks on the doors and plug sockets had been torn out of the walls.
“I walked into my bedroom and it was just chaos,” Ms Glazier said.
Bites had been taken out of chairs, the sheets had been ripped off the bed and a cot had been dragged from the wardrobe and strewn across the room.
To the family’s horror, the animal had also chomped through a Grade II listed Georgian window frame.
It was then Ms Glazier spotted the culprit hiding in a blue bin which had been tipped onto its side.
“I just spotted a little bit of black and white fur,” she said.
It is thought the badger had been walking along an outside wall, fallen into the garden and become trapped.
Once the culprit had been identified, Badger Trust Isle of Wight was called to its rescue, securing it in a cage before releasing it back to its sett.
The family said the rogue badger had caused an estimated £2,000 worth of damage to their home.
