Kill The Justice League’s First Patch Arrives With A Bunch Of Nerfs

The good news is that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s first major patch has arrived since launch. The bad news is that it’s mainly fixing a damage scaling bug that messed up its leaderboards causing a huge reset. And there are a bunch of other nerfs as well. But one buff!

The main issue is that burn damage did not scale correctly at higher mastery levels meaning they essentially never got harder so long as you were using that build. The nerf here is necessary, given that it made burn builds just wildly better than anything else, but it’s a bit rough to have this be the first major thing changed with the game. And the issue was so bad they are nuking the entire leaderboard and starting all over again. Here are the patch notes for changes in the build:

  • Heat Wave’s Molten Skin & The Turtle’s Shell have had their damage reduction reduced from 100% to 90%.
  • Due to some players exploiting certain mission mechanics, vehicle kills during Gizmo’s Support Squad missions no longer grant XP. You are still awarded XP for mission completion.
  • With the fix to Burning damage, players will be less likely to get to the same Mastery Level as before. As a result, we will be creating new Leaderboards in the interest of fairness. Fear not though, as we will be archiving the existing Leaderboards, so those currently atop the rankings will live on in infamy!
  • With the fix coming to Burning damage scaling and hearing the concerns around hitting a wall when climbing Mastery levels, we have reduced enemy health scaling for Mastery levels 46 and above.
  • To keep things challenging, enemies at Mastery level 46 and above will now deal more damage.

So, to recap we have:

  • A nerf to survivability for two popular shields
  • A nerf to XP making the vehicle part of the game (I am still a bit confused why vehicles exist at all) as they no longer give XP for enemy kills.
  • A fix to burn builds that has caused a reset of the entire leaderboards. I find myself wondering if they’re going to do this every time some new big bug is discovered letting players climb mastery levels too quickly, as no doubt there will be more of these to come.
  • The one buff here is that they are reducing enemy health scaling after Mastery 46, as it was too high hence why burn builds were necessary.
  • But they are increasing damage from enemies so you will have to build out differently for protection. And those old immunity shields no longer provide immunity.

Not…ideal, I would say. I was hoping for some buffs to other elements like electricity and freezing, but that does not seem to be in the cards. I get why the burn fix was important, but I don’t know, it feels like this game has more important issues than “leaderboards.” Plus, outright cheaters are constantly found on top of them anyway.

We are supposedly about a month from the first big Suicide Squad content drop with the Joker, so we’ll see when that date is officially announced. Until then, time to come up with new builds, if you’re still playing.
