I’m a 67-year-old woman and I received my diagnosis six months ago.
My children have been telling anyone and everyone about my condition, against my will. They’ve started making out that I’m sicker than I am.
I hate to say it but I feel as if they’re being opportunistic.
Every time I’ve tried to ask them about money they owe me they keep insisting that they’ve paid me back and that I’ve simply forgotten.
I’ve tried to fight my corner but they keep gaslighting me and blaming my dementia.
This is really stressing me out.

While your children may not have any ill intentions, their actions are clearly upsetting you.
Take a moment to sit down with them and explain how you feel.
In future, refrain from loaning them any money. That way there will be no grey areas over anyone owing you cash.
If you still feel like they’re taking advantage of you, talk to other people who you trust about your concerns.
