As expected, Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti will make lineup changes to his side that faces Almeria in La Liga at the Bernabeu on Sunday.
The fixture, which is practically top against bottom, gives the Italian a rare chance to rest some players with less risk than usual before Los Blancos head down the home stretch in the domestic championship and on the continent in the Champions League.
At his pre-match press conference on Saturday, however, the manager refused to confirm that he would make rotations despite a gruelling extra time defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey last time out.
“There are players who deserve to play. I have to take into account who has not recovered well, the fatigue… but looking at today’s training they will all recover [their fitness],” Ancelotti said.
“The objective is to get the best eleven and win, not to distribute minutes,” he added.
Regardless of his remarks, Ancelotti will indeed shift things round a bit.
Following the 4-2 loss to crosstown rivals Atleti which knocked his side out of the Copa last 16, Ancelotti said that Kepa would replace Andriy Lunin, who could be deemed at fault for at least a couple of the Rojiblanco’s goals.
At left back, Ferland Mendy keeps his place alongside Antonio Rudiger, Nacho and Dani Carvajal.
In central midfield, Toni Kroos and Aurelien Tchouameni partner up therefore replacing Luka Modric and Eduardo Camavinga.
Jude Bellingham and Fede Valverde maintain their spots elsewhere in the center of the park, however, as do Vinicius and Rodrygo up top.
At some stage of the proceedings, we should expect to see Brahim, Joselu and also Arda Guler in midfield if Madrid appears to be cruising to a 16th win of the season.
By claiming three points, Ancelotti’s troops can steer two clear of Girona and 10 ahead of FC Barcelona prior to both Catalan outfits playing later on Sunday evening in Spain.
Real Madrid Vs. Almeria Starting XI: Kepa; Carvajal, Rudiger, Nacho, Mendy; Valverde, Kroos, Tchouameni, Bellingham; Rodrygo, Vinicius.
